Corrections Policy

How to tell us about something on Stuama.ie that looks wrong or out of date, and how reports are checked and corrected.

Our approach

We try hard to get things right, but business services change quickly and mistakes can happen. When a material factual error on Stuama.ie is reported and confirmed, we aim to correct it promptly. Reports from readers, providers and anyone else are all checked in the same way.

What you can report

Please tell us about anything you think is wrong or out of date, including:

  • factual errors;
  • incorrect prices, fees or product features;
  • provider information that is out of date or no longer offered;
  • statistics that do not match their source;
  • inaccurate statements about law, tax or regulation;
  • broken links, or links that go to the wrong page.

What is not necessarily an error

Not every report leads to a correction. We distinguish between three situations:

A factual error
A statement that is contradicted by a current, reliable source, such as a wrong fee, a misquoted statistic or a rule stated incorrectly. Once confirmed, we correct it.
A change after publication
Something that was accurate when checked but has since changed, such as a provider updating its prices. We update the page and its date; this is an update rather than a correction of an error.
A matter of editorial judgement
A disagreement with how something is explained, what is included, or a view on which option may suit which business. We take this kind of feedback seriously, though it will not necessarily change the page.

How corrections are handled

  1. We review the report. We look at the page and the specific claim you have identified.
  2. We check authoritative sources. We compare the claim with the relevant regulator, government source, legislation, official statistic or the provider’s own published information.
  3. We update the page where necessary. If the claim is wrong or out of date, we correct it and update the page’s date.
  4. We check related pages. If the same error appears elsewhere on Stuama.ie, we correct it there too.

Commercial relationships and corrections

A commercial relationship does not affect whether or how an error is corrected. Corrections are based on what a current, reliable source says, whether or not the provider concerned has any connection with Stuama.ie. See our Our Partnerships page for the relationships that currently exist.

Minor edits and significant corrections

Small fixes to typos, wording or layout happen routinely and are not flagged. A correction that matters more, such as one that alters a fee, a statistic, a legal point or the overall takeaway of a page, is different: where knowing about the change would help readers who saw the earlier version, we aim to say on the page what was corrected.

Response times

Stuama.ie is run by a sole operator rather than a large editorial team, so we do not commit to a set turnaround. Every report is looked at, and confirmed material errors are put right as soon as we reasonably can.

Reporting an error

To help us check a report quickly, please include:

  • a link to the page concerned;
  • the sentence, figure or claim in question;
  • what you believe is correct, with a link to a current source if you have one.
